Keep the Bay accessible to everyone.
Decisions about parking, beaches, sea walls, water access and new parks are being made around the Bay right now. They affect swimmers, paddlers, rowers, sailors, windsurfers, kiters, wingfoilers, anglers and beach visitors in different ways. This site turns the findings of a 2026 shoreline-access report into specific things you can do, and helps you say them in your own words.

Status: Open for comment · Golden Gate Fields and Racetrack (Albany Beach), Albany/Berkeley
What's at risk: The former racetrack is becoming a regional shoreline park, and the EBRPD board is expected to vote on buying it October 20. Ask the board to plan for launch areas, loading and parking, and to keep interim access open.
The main ask: Map launch and landing zones, rigging and loading areas, and long-duration parking within a short carry of the water, and keep launch corridors clear of fences, posts and plantings.
By when: Email now. Board vote reported for Tue., Oct 20; written comments due by 3 PM Mon., Oct 19.

Status: Open for comment · Berkeley Marina, South Cove and South Basin
What's at risk: Berkeley wants to charge for parking at the South Basin lots and turn waterfront parking over to a ferry terminal. Ask regulators to keep this publicly built park accessible.
The main ask: Deny the permit to charge for parking at South Cove and the South Basin. If anything is approved, make it a time-limited trial with a sunset date, independent monitoring and a baseline built from real use data. It must not become permanent administratively.
By when: Write now. BCDC's hearing is expected in the coming months, and early letters go into the record.

Status: Open for comment · Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach, Alameda
What's at risk: Crown Beach is running out of sand, and emergency rock is being stockpiled for winter. Ask that storm protection keep a usable beach and a way into the water.
The main ask: Include beach and water users in EBRPD and the City of Alameda's winter storm planning for Crown Beach.
By when: Write now, before this winter's storm work. Email by 3 PM Mon., Oct 19 to reach the board before its Oct 20 meeting.

What SFBA's report found
The San Francisco Boardsailing Association's annual audit rates shoreline access sites as closed, compromised or threatened. Its 2026 edition identifies two forces driving the biggest changes:
- Public land put to private use: charging for access to shoreline parks built for public recreation.
- Erosion, and how we respond to it: rock and walls protect what's behind a beach, but the beach itself is lost.
The report's 2026–27 priorities
- Berkeley Marina: discourage BCDC from permitting paid parking, and judge the ferry project on real use data, a costed in-marina alternative and a full fiscal accounting.
- Crown Beach: design access into this winter’s storm response, and secure permanent ramps and sand before April.
- Measure use: build a replicable way to measure recreational demand from anonymized mobility data.
- Write recreation into shoreline adaptation plans: usable beach width, a usable tidal window, launch and landing space, and parking for recreation.
- Beaches over armor: favor sand nourishment and living shorelines, and require designed access through any armoring.
- New parkland: plan new shoreline parks around regional, not site-by-site, needs.
- Fund the work and keep building a coalition of swimmers, paddlers, anglers and families who share these beaches.
